Their general outlook expresses the specific style and taste of the embroidery masters from differen etnographic groups. With an exquisite sense of colour, the masters combine shades of one colour in intricate plays. The ornamentation is primarily geometrical, combined with stylized floral motifs and animal and human figures. The hems with anthropomorphic figures is typical of the embroidery from the town of Samokov. The embroidery from the Sofia district is a complex and symmetrical combination of geometrical motifs which are ancient in origin and carry rich semantics. The embroidery from South West Bulgaria, with densely situated stitches and the typical colour play of red and wine-red, is completely different from the sokai embroidery of the Gabrovo district, open-worked and decorated with gold threads.
