potteryjpgAccording to Bulgarian folk mythology, the potter's work is sacred and the mastering of this craft is a mystery which jealously kept in the family. As late as the 18th and 19th centuries this commonly accepted rule was broken and "aliens" were admitted too. Bulgarian people used to be of the opinion that to learn the art of pottery making one had to be not only enthusiastic and industrious, but also needed a "God's blessing" to do that. And maybe that's why ceramics are among the best products of folk art.
