Situated at the foot of the Ossogovska Mountain, Kyustendil (ancient Pautalia) is one of Bulgaria's best known spa resorts. It was established and grew because of its hot mineral springs.
Today Kyustendil continues to attract people with its healing mineral waters. In addition, the largest peat-mud field in Bulgaria is situated not far from the town. This combination makes Kyustendil a popular resort location.
The mineral water is hot – 71-73°C, rich in met-silica acid and hydro-sulfide, containing hydrocarbon, sulfate and sodium ions. The resort is a place indicated especially for treatment of diseases of the peripheral nervous system, skin diseases, rheumatic diseases, and gynecological disorders.
Comprehensive treatment includes procedures with mineral water and peat, electric and light paraffin applications, curative massage, reflexotherapy, laser acupuncture and kinesitherapy.
