 Troyan Monastery

    Troyan

potteryjpg In the 19th century a huge market-place grew up near the Troyan Monastery, with its tradition very much alive today. Each and every year from June through September - thousands of people flock to the Fair of Traditional Crafts in the village of Oreshak, where work by leading Bulgarian folk artists is on sale. The queen of crafts is no doubt the unsurpassed Troyan style pottery - the warmth of the clay abounds in the gay colours of the Bulgarian land, and gives expression to the cheerful charachter of its people.
